How to Make a Round Scrapbooking Shaker Box

Print this articleShaker boxes add a bit of movement and dimension to your scrapbooks. Fill the boxes with small items such as beads, seeds and sequins and watch them "shake" as you turn the pages. Round shapes are a whimsical touch to just about any page: use sand and shells in a circle that becomes the letter "O" on an ocean-themed page; put confetti in balloons on a birthday page; or sprinkle red and green beads inside a Christmas wreath for a holiday page.

Cut two round shapes the same size out of cardstock. Cut a round shape the same size as the cardstock shapes out of a clear plastic sheet, such as a page protector or and overhead projector sheet.

2

Cut an opening of the shape and size you desire in one of the round cardstock pieces. This could be a circle within a circle or a square within a circle, for example. Make the opening large enough so that you will be able to see your shaker box filler.

3

Flip the cardstock piece with the opening over so it is face down. Place a thin line of glue on the cardstock and adhere the clear plastic shape so it creates a window.

4

Remove the adhesive backing from one side of the double-sided tape and place it on the clear plastic outside of the window. If the window is round, you may need to cut the adhesive tape into pieces to make it fit. Place the pieces snug against one another, allowing no gaps between them.

5

Add your filler items to the well created by the double-sided take and clear plastic.

6

Remove the adhesive backing from the other side of the double-sided tape. Line up the other round cardstock piece and adhere it to the tape. Flip over and use glue to adhere the shaker box to your scrapbook page.

Tips & Warnings

Layer the foam tape to create a deeper well to hold bigger items or add greater depth to the scrapbook page.

The clear plastic and bottom cardstock piece may be cut slightly smaller than the top cardstock piece.

When you flip the finished shaker box over, if any foam tape is sticking out, trim it with scissors or a craft knife.

If the clear plastic has static cling, rub a fabric softener sheet on it until the cling is gone.

Make sure the foam tape has no gaps or the filler items may not stay put.

Do not fill the shaker box completely with the small items, or they will not move in the box.

When filling the well and removing the adhesive backing, take care not to get the filler items stuck on the tape or your cardstock will not adhere smoothly.
